Graham: This is Graham Albans interviewing Georgia Brown for the LincolnBands website. So, if you can give us your full name, your age and what you do.
Georgia: Ok, I'm Georgia Brown, I'm 17 and I help out at BBC Lincs, doing reviews, taking pictures, some of the talking sometimes and I also help out at Siren.
Graham: And when you're not doing that what do you do in your full time?
Georgia: I'm at college doing Law, Sociology and Photography and English Language
Graham: So what makes you want to take photographs of bands?
Georgia: It's, exciting, I enjoy music and its loads of fun doing it and you get to meet great people
Graham: In terms of great people, who have you photographed? What's your CV looking like?
Georgia: As well as local bands which I love doing, I've done The Pigeon Detectives, Guillmots, Cage The Elephant, The Hoosiers
Graham: Quite big bands then, how do you mange to get the big bands?
Georgia: I ask the Echo if they need a photographer and if they do I work them or BBC Radio Lincs, if somebody is being interviewed...
Graham: So how did you get started? What made you pick up a camera and what to photograph bands?
Georgia: Sam Atkins who works at Radio Lincolnshire did a "Fly on the wall" at my school, and I was one of the ones chosen to make a mini-programm for him, and he later saw me in town and asked me if I wanted to come here (BBC Radio Lincs).
Graham: So is this a hobby or do you want to take it into a career?
Georgia: Probably a career, because it would be amazing to travel and see great bands.
Graham: So for any other budding photographers what steps do you have to take to go from a hobby to getting paid for what you do?
Georgia: As well as going to college its about getting the experience, doing whatever you can whereever you can.
Graham: Does your work come from word of mouth or just contacting bands?
Georgia: Some word of mouth but as after a while people recommend you, if you do good work, you build up a base of people who give your name about.
Graham: Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Georgia: I'd like to be a photo-journalist, probably doing what I'm doing but at a higher level. MTV would be nice!
Graham: What kind of equipment are you using?
Georgia: I just use my SLR - Fuji FinePix
Graham: What's the next bit of equipment you'd like to get?
Georgia: Perhaps a Canon, but I'm happy with my camera; it does the job and I'm happy.
Graham: Do you prefer live gigs or organised shoots?
Georgia: I don't know, live you get the atmosphere, but when I take promotional shots thats fun, I generally take the band out for a day and spend the whole day taking pictures.
Graham: What about photographing local bands, is it better to photograph them at gigs or promotional shoots?
Georgia: Both, really. I've just done The Living Daylights and for what they wanted it was better to have staged shots. But live shots, you get to know the band and how they perform.
Graham: So you get to know the bands. Why don't you tell us what you like about the Lincoln scene?
Georgia: Some of the bands are so good and it seems that everybody in Lincoln is a part of music scene somehow and it all seems to be going on well here.
Graham: Who are your top three local bands, you got to name and shame.
Georgia: Ohhhh. I can't have favourites but probably Dirty As Muck, Dancing Lotus, The Idlers, oh Elliott Morris
Graham: So we're not having favourites, but name our favourites anyway.
Georgia: I love them all though
Graham: On the opposite side of that though, what do you dislike about the Lincoln scene.
Georgia: I think sometimes when you go to a gig, especially in a pub, its like background noise, where it should be about the music.
Graham: I'd agree with that. Right a pressing question. If you culd take one photo of one band or musician who would it be and why?
Georgia: Oh this is so difficult. Probably Babyshambles, I don't know there's so many bands.
Graham: Ok I'll give you two bands. Sit down in a room with
Georgia: It'd have to be TV Kicks then wouldn't it
Graham: I'd like to point out that I did not prime Georgia to say that. Good answer though. So it'd be Babyshambles then. If Pete Doherty called you up and said we need you to do the photos, you'd say yes.
Georgia: Definitley.
Graham: You've got more courage than some of us. You've got quite a lot of big bands listed there as well as the local bands. What have you got coming up?
Georgia: It's quite exciting I've got Ting Tings, Dizzee Rascal, and I'm doing all the upcoming gigs for the Echo.
Graham: So at the minute you're working for the Echo, BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Siren as well. Finally is doing this the same kind of thing you started out doing, how would you recommend they progress in what they're doing and get better at it, progress in the photography world?
Georgia: It's experience, getting to know different people, as well as being really good at what you do, you have to know people, word of mouth and recommendations.
