John Peel Night The Wreckset + The Eccentrics + Lost Hearts + Liveriot + Lipstick Entourage Christopher's, Lincoln 12 October 2006
Review by Pete
A poster of Peel gazed down on the proceedings, bearded but angel like in his long haired youth. The spirit of the night was one of sharing a passion for the music and bands and fans celebrated that in a way that made the night somehow different from usual, more light-hearted, less pressured or precious, something like that.... Lipstick Entourage opened in their quirky effete style that beguiles, they are serious contenders for indie hearts in this town.
The crowd stuck around
till the finale of The Wreck Set - all beefed up male rockiness
Peel would have had to be like Santa to get to all the venues honouring his achievement in establishing a musical counter-culture in this country - but I'm a hundred per cent sure, wherever you were listening to a band tonight, you could definitely feel you were somehow in his company, all warmly ironic and sadly missed. Huge thanks gotta go to all the organisers of the Christophers night and to all the bands. Good job!

Ed: £175 was raised on the door for the NSPCC, the five promoters and Neil from Christopher's dug in their pockets and matched this so a total of £350 will be given to the charity |

Christophers played host to one of the many John Peel tribute gigs
taking place all over the country on October 12th. Five promoters -
five bands, Nathan on sound and Lincoln's live music fans happy to
fork out few quid on the door to raise a wodge of cash for the NSPCC.
Promoter Chris on bass
joined his band Live Riot to add some Manc style attitude, followed by
duo Lost Hearts. How two lads and a bit of pre-programmed drums could
make such a full on sound was impressive.
Genuine panache to their
material and delivery, descending at times into carelessness but done
with such innocent charm that they were a joy - all five songs, which
was possibly their complete repertoire.
Local punksters The Eccentrics
can always be counted on and their dark, punchy set is practiced almost
into submission. They give it everything every time they play and the
love they have for what they do shines through.
that
somehow cranked up the heaviness factor to the mythical 'eleven' - even
though the dial only goes up to ten.
