The Straight Men were formed when ex Mutley front man Nick
Maunsell sat up one night in his Leicester flat and said
fuck it I'm gonna form a new band. Just over a year on and
he has the best line up anyone could have asked for.
First to join was Mark Barrett, the ex 22-20s drummer is
a real professional and has a unique style. It was great
that Mark joined first not only cos he's so good but his
pedigree helped attract quality musicians. Then on guitar
came Chris Robinson, put simply Chris is a great player, always
interesting and looking to do something new. On keyboards
Vincent Wegner joined up.Vince is one of the best pianists
around and also uses some great modern sounds to good effect.
Last to arrive was Chris Ramsay on Bass.Having played with
Laurie Bennett and the Models theres not a lot more that
needs to be said. They were the best Lincoln band of their
era and the name still commands respect to this day.
Nick says- Things have been going really well, wev'e played
a handful of Lincoln gigs and are just starting to branch
out.Wer'e doing two gigs in Leicester soon and are looking
towards Nottingham,Birmingham and all the major towns and
cities. We recorded a four track demo to use to get gigs
but are planning to do some polished tracks very soon.
Our songs/set goes down well wherever we play and this
makes it easier on us.We can play at dedicated live music
venues or at cafe bars, its always a success. As a songwriter
Iv'e always wanted to please everyone. The common man can
enjoy us but we also get respect from the muso's.
We couldn't ask for things to be going any better than
they are at the moment and are looking to maybe sign a management
deal sometime in the summer when the set has maybe advanced
and improved a little. We' re happy with it now but know
from experience that it will get better.
