Why does a band exist?" and "what happens to the band members
when the band splits, but they still want to play music?"
The answer to the former is "because a group of people
form one" and the answer to the latter is "they form a new
band".
Now, this isn't true of all bands that exist, but we find
that it applies particularly in our own case.
We are iSPYthe45s...the little-known indie/britpop
band from Lincoln. Taking inspiration from the likes of
Aqualung , Damien Rice, Coldplay and the Doves.
The band originally formed under the name of Donut
in late 2003. after several months of writing, the band
decided to try their luck in a battle of the bands competition.
they failed to make it past the heats...but this didn't
get them down. they then searched for that elusive 'first
gig' and found it in the form of The Heathfields supporting
local band Simon and the Sunshines. the band were to make
several more appearances at the venue.
At this time, the band wanted to capitalise on the momentum
they had built up with a release of some kind. but this
was to be Donut's epitaph. recorded at the home of one of
the band members, the tape 'A Collection Of Songs' was a
two track demo to promote the band in the Lincoln area.
Front man Eddie had started writing some new songs at
the time which were very different from songs previously
heard from the band. various sources took interest in these
songs, one of which appeared on the demo 'Everything Changed'.
Eddie decided to form a new band to pursue interest in his
new songs. they were known as iSPYthe45s. Eddie eventually
left Donut so they split. iSPYthe45s is, officially, a one-man-band
but various musicians (most of which were previously in
Donut) help out giving the band a fuller feel to its music.
A debut EP is being recorded currently, due for release
on a small scale in February. after this has been released,
the band will be looking into doing a few shows in the Lincoln
area so watch this space for details.
