To cut a long story short, having followed a long twisted history of bands and friendships, we arrive in August 2004 and the forming of the awesome new talent which is known by the masses as “Gaucho”. The front man, the man with the golden trachea, he is known as Marcus a.k.a. Flea. His left-hand man goes by the name of Dodge; he’s the chap with the riffs. Elge produces the underlying groove and crashing and smashing these guys on their journey of musical righteousness is Barney.
Lincoln Bands very own Katrina described our sound as veering ‘along the west-coast of the USA, taking the best parts of Seattle grunge and California surf-rock, adding their own dashes of finite, down-to-earth lyricism’. That seems fair enough as some comparisons we’ve received do include Peal Jam, Counting Crows, The Calling, RHCP and the Foo Fighters.
Since our first gig in February 2005, we’ve played over 50 gigs in Retford, Mansfield, Worksop, Lincoln, Leeds, Doncaster, Nottingham, Sheffield, Richmond (North Yorkshire) Manchester, Liverpool and even as far down south as Kent. All of which have been off our own back as we have no manager and aren’t on a label.
We didn’t start off well in the sense of promoting ourselves. It’s only been in the last few months to be honest where we’ve really starting thinking about things on more of a business scale. It seems to be working; we’ve shifted about 400 CDs in the last couple of months at gigs so hopefully popularity will grow from this. We’ve even had some Gaucho stickers printed out which, beyond handing them out at gigs, we accept no responsibility for by the way!! We’ve seen them in various pub toilets, walls, lampposts, bollards and even peoples cars! I think the owners of the cars put them there though!
We’ve recorded 7 tunes now in Axis studios over in Doncaster. Matt Ellis does a great job over there and makes a great sounding final product. We recorded 3 tunes last December and 4 more just a few weeks ago. So, if any local radio stations are reading this, feel free to play any of our stuff! We’ve played a number of acoustic versions of our songs too at various locations, which seem to transpose very well and we’re all a cracking bunch of lads and perfect for interviews!
We are now actually on a bit of mission in spreading the word…and the word is Gaucho. We’ve been mailing off our 7-track EP to all the local radio stations and as many promoters, managers, A&R and PR people as we can get details on. We’re currently on the lookout for a manager/label and hopefully some kind of tour. We’re also trying to get as many reviews as we can from both our CD and from our live shows. We feel it’s important to get an overall opinion of the noise we create.
With the current music trend in this country, we feel we’re fighting a bit of an uphill struggle and believe that we would probably be more successful over in America, but with a lack of PR and management, that’s a bit of a mission! However, isn’t it about time this country needed another true rock ‘n’ roll band…!?
