The Eccentrics came together after what was to be the last
Suburban Toys gigs.
Sandra Leithauser had come to Lincoln to study Architectural
Restoration, and in the spring of 2000 walked into The Planet
Of Sound Record Shop asking if I (Vincent) knew of any bands
wanting a ‘punk’ guitarist. She had previously played in
a German hardcore band called Korrupt - which released a
couple of singles and a couple of albums. I thought that
it would be a good idea for the Suburban Toys to have a
second guitarist again, and after a lot of drinks, and listening
to each other tapes etc., she joined. We had some good gigs,
but in October 2000, knowing that Laura – our singer – was
leaving to concentrate on studies, we knew that the band
was having its’ last gigs. Sandra and I then decided to
form another band. In the audience that night was Sean,
I knew that he had played in a band before, so I just went
and asked him if he wanted to sing again. He took up the
offer.
The first rehearsal was at the beginning of November 2000,
with Nathan Fairweather on drums. Many will know Nathan
as the sound engineer from the Falcon, and Sean had previously
played in Malediction with him. This, unfortunately, was
also the last with Nathan – he was so busy with other stuff,
and couldn’t find time to rehearse. At the beginning of
December, after a few weeks of rehearsing without a drummer,
Sandra offered the services of her boyfriend. She said that
he could drum, and because we had a gig booked supporting
The Vibrators only 8 days later we thought it prudent to
take the offer up. The ‘boyfriend’ was Trotsky – awesome
drummer with the legendary Subhumans – a band that Sean
and I had grown up idolising, and we now had him ‘standing’
in on drums until we could find another drummer. All the
songs immediately sounded tight, and the personalities got
on well together, and 8 days later we did the gig. Luckily
he decided to stay for good.
In January / February 2001 we recorded our first demos
- 10 tracks at Steve Hawkins I.C.E Studio – 5 of which we
put out on the DESTINATION NOWHERE CD. A few more gigs followed
whenever possible – dependant upon when Trotsky was not
playing with either Citizen Fish or The Subhumans, along
with more recordings at Phil’s (Subhumans bassist) studio
in Warminster. Our website www.geocities.com/eccentrics_uk
gives more details, and items are available if wanted by
anyone.
Currently Sandra and Trotsky have relocated to Germany,
and started a family – so in the meantime David Flintham,
one time Suburban Toys guitarist – currently with Seudonym,
and Dave Parker (Lurch) – ex Elusive Mr.Hunt (drums) have
stood in. We are keen to gig, anywhere and everywhere, as
this is the main reason for being in a band, and something
we have not had much of recently, and with having 4 people
all in the same town now playing in the band it makes this
more feasible.
