30.09.08 After a rejected record deal in the summer, Joe Mac is back with a brand new 4-track EP. It was painstakingly recorded with the help of Chris Yeardsley on bass, Josh Cook on drums, and quite a few glasses of whiskey and coke. The new recordings are more polished than previous efforts and highlight a bigger sound. Instead of being typcast as simply an `acoustic troubadour`, Joe wanted to employ the skills of the imaginatively titled `Joe Mac Band` to bring his new songs to life. Two of the four tracks feature guest Nick Long (of Dancing Lotus) on violin. The EP is available at all Joe's gigs for £3 and can also be purchased off his myspace, myspace.com/joemacallister You can see traditional acoustic Joe Mac on the following dates: Kind 07/10 The Green Dragon 09/10 The Library Bar 11/10 and The Slug & Lettuce 12/10. Dates with the band in tow are soon to be announced

28.09.08 Adam Burnage, from Melon Cauli Flower, is going to be running an open event for musicians aged 18-80 at The Slug & Lettuce. Rather than go the traditional jam /open mic night Adam is hoping to encourage musicians to play/rehearse/get together in a laid back setting. Musicians and/or bands interested should contact Adam through his band's myspace. The events will run each Sunday night and the aim is to get musicians together to socialise and have some fun. There are amps available but if a band wants to go contact Adam to discuss kit.

27.09.2008 The Idlers have called it a day. We'd heard the rumours and it was finally confirmed on BBC Lincs Introducing last night. The split is amicable. Joe is leaving Lincoln and the remaining members thought they didn't want to continue. The guys who gigged extensively across the UK, with their crowning glory playing the Leeds Festival last year. The remaining members are currently looking at a new project. The Idlers will play a farewell gig (probably at the Bivouac in October). Good luck to the guys in whatever projects they follow, they will be much missed.

12.09.08 XS Broadcasting are starting an internet based streamed television channel for Lincolnshire. They have a draft site up now so you can take a look at some of the content. www.channellincolnshire.co.uk
Its a cultural project and bands and musicians can get involved. This is what Channel:Lincolnshire are about
"What we are looking for is Twofold really.
Firstly, we would like Lincolnshire bands to produce music for title/introduction, sting and backing track for our programmes. We require 30, 20, 10 and 5 second pieces for several different shows. The bands could submit existing music or produce something new. We launch the first of our shows on the 1st October but have up to 8 shows coming before Christmas ranging from News, Sport to business programmes so many different styles would be suitable.
Secondly, one of main focuses/shows on Channel Lincolnshire will be Culture & our ‘Culture Lincs’ show. We shall be featuring ‘What’s on guides’ to video for the whole county and we would like to feature as many bands as possible. Can you ask bands to email with contact details (music@channellincolnshire.co.uk) (email address is not live until Monday) This is create our own database for me to contact them from. We do already have footage of several Lincolnshire bands as Buzz TV was part of Xs Broadcasting but the more the merrier."
New pieces of music written specially or already created tunes are welcome, and can be emailed or posted direct (details on C-Lincs site). If your piece is selected it may be used to as the soundtrack to one of the Channel's video pieces.
Sounds like an exciting venture and we'd like to wish them all the best with it

11.09.08 With support from...
is to be a new feature on the site. After a number of emails / messages we've decided that once a month we'll run a feature (which could be an interview or a bio or even a podcast) of the "unsung" heroes, well known (or not so well well known) amongst the music fraternity in Lincoln. This could be the man (woman?) behind the desk, the recording studio, photographer, promoter, music tutor or just somebody that appears to be at every gig you go to. We've got the first one lined up and it should appear on the site within the next few days. In the meantime, if you think somebody should get some recognition drop us a line or nominate somebody on the forum.
|
11.09.08 As previously mentioned Sevenday Weekend and The Satisfaction have both got through to the Scunthorpe Rock Open Semi Finals.
