28.04.08 May is looking very promising on the gig front. Steve at the Biv has a number of gigs coming up including Lap, 4 Ft Fingers and the farewell show from Lincoln ska legends Rides The Bus (tbc). The B Festival takes place at Bishop Grossteste on 14th May (12 bands over two stages). Confirmation of whether the Mezz Fest (20+ bands!) is imminent, plus the Beltaine Bash at The Brewer (5th May), more nights from Alternative Fridays and Cathedral City Promo. And Aurora have an Indie night (10th May) and a number of rock nights to fill up your diaries with. All this and a good showing from The Engine Shed, Billy Bragg (4th May) The Pigeon Detectives, Guillemots and The Charlatans. A good tme to be in Lincoln.


The Living Daylights28.04.08 The Living Daylights head over to Europe next week for a couple of dates, before gigging through to August, with 15 dates already confirmed including a couple of jaunts up to Scotland. The guys are playing a couple of gigs in Lincoln including the B Festival (14th May) alongside a number of other local and not so local bands, and one at the Biv (25th July) with Failsafe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Sleaford Live26.04.08 Sleaford Live 08 kicks of at the beginning of May with a number of events round Sleaford and other venues in "Kesteven". Among the highlights are TFX, Just For Kicks, Maelstrom and The Jubilees at the Barge & Bottle in Sleaford (Bank Holiday Monday - 5th May) and a "Sleaford Has Talent" showcase on 7th May (again at the Barge & Bottle). Aurora Musicians night26.04.08 Sunday 11th May sees Dawn at Aurora Promotions start up a regular musicians night at the Traveller's Rest. Entry is free and musicians are invited to bring along an instrument and join in as and when they wish. Dawn is also using the night to promote a new musicians forum that has recently started. As Death Creeps Forwards 22.04.08 This coming Saturday is proving to be a veritable gig fest. Three confirmed gigs with twelve bands playing. The Duke Of Wellington plays host to Sworn Amongst, Cause If Chaos and Arcanum, whilst the As Death Creeps Forwards presents more metal from Liverpudlians Seraph Impaled and Endless Sea with support from Nottingham / Lincoln Martyr Defiled. Joes A Fiend Josephine17.04.08 London/Lincoln based Joe's A Fiend Josephine which features member s of Lipstick Entourage will be playing their first gig up in this nectk of the woods in May. The Idlers17.04.08 The Idlers have a last minute gig in at The Met Lounge in Peterborough tomorrow night (Fri 18th). The guys will be supporting The Wallbirds, who themselves are fresh from touring with The Pigeon Detectives. Entry is £5 on the door, with The Idlers onstage at 9pm.


Oxjam at Walkabout17 .04.08 Walkabout Lincoln and Bounce Bands have joined forces to bring back live music to Walkabout. The first event will be in aid of OXJAM on Thursday 24th April. Bands performing will be Starter, Gaucho (who are playing instead of Kensal Rise), Suns of Banditos and TV Kicks. OXJAM is part of the international charity, Oxfam, that aims to tackle poverty around the world. The OXJAM festival this year runs throughout April. The event starts at 9.00pm, and tickets will be £3 in advance from Walkabout (01522 538663), Bounce (01427 874514), from any of the bands playing, or YAK clothing store on the High Street. All proceeds go to OXJAM, but once all 300 tickets have been sold, there are no more, so get yours quick to be sure to get in!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Joe Mac 16.04.08 Joe Mac has some more gigs lined up, the first one being tomorrow (17th) at Coffee Aroma. You can then catch Joe (sometimes with Dancing Lotus) Also, after much scouting around, Joe has finally got a backing band together, `The Joe Mac Band`, and done some recording. Joe said "I'm dead excited about it all, `going electric/doing a Dylan` and all that! The album will be released in the near future and is a real mix of blues/ glam/ swing/ jazz/ country/ funk influences with a big emphasis on electric guitar and more `grown up` lyrics. But for now, I have made a track available for FREE download on my myspace page. It's called `Two Lane Blacktop` and was inspired by the cult drag-racing film of the same name, released in 1971 and starring James Taylor and Beach Boy, Dennis Wilson. The Idlers16.04.08 The Idlers have announced some upcoming gigs, starting next Tuesday 22nd April at The Linnet and Lark in Hull. It's free entry, with the band onstage at 9pm, for anyone who's in the area! In the run up to the gig, the band have a radio session for Raw Talent on BBC Humberside, going out this Sunday 20th April from 8pm. 95.9FM in North Lincs, and online at bbc.co.uk. The band are also currently busy booking their summer tour, which kicks off in June. They already have a number of dates booked including London's Hope & Anchor (5th June), the Vintage Rock Bar in Doncaster (27th June) with more more listed on their site myspace.com/theidlersindie. The band are booking thoughout the summer, so if anyone has any slots or contacts and would like the band to play, please get in touch! The Idlers would also like to give a big thanks to everyone who came down and packed out So:Luxe last Friday night, it was great to see so many in the venue, and it made for a really special night for drummer Jason, on his first gig with the band. Also a firm handshake goes out to Chris Martin and the Raw team, for all the effort in making the hastly rearranged gig run so smoothly!


Bruce-tality16.04.08 If you like your music with a flavour of Strummer or Bragg then this will be right up your street. Local punk/folk poet Bruce-tality has a couple of dates confirmed. Whiskycats 16.04.08 Get along to the Biv this Friday (18th) and catch Mancunian Indie Jazz outfit WhiskyCats Its hard to pigeonhole these guys, who are receiving some excellent reviews nationwide. Support comes from Lincoln's Drive By Theory and Grantham pop punks This Day Remains who are also getting some very good press.


Dancing Lotus 16.04.08 After a massive response to a petition on facebook Dancing Lotus have been booked to play the AU ball on 24th April at The Engine Shed. Tickets are £10 which allows entrance after 10.45pm (Dancing Lotus are on at 11.15) They're hoping to get as many people along to support them, particularly as companies in London are begining to show an interest.

"My name is Guy Halford, I am doing a half hour live radio broadcast on Lincoln Uni's Siren 107.3 FM radio station on Monday 21st April between 2:30pm and 3:00pm and am currently looking for someone to perform an acoustic track and have a short interview, it would be an ideal oppurtunity for you to get your music out on a live radio show. Seven Sins14.04.08 Seven Sins' 'Dark Angels' is well on the way. RaW 12.04.08 Exciting news from Chris Martin of Raw. They have managed to pull off something of an an exclusive securing the official Supergrass after show party. The event will take place at So:Luxe after the gig at the Engine Shed (17th Apr), with DJ sets from Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey. Further Raw news, that they are to launch an evening - Acoustic Sessions - at the Lincolnshire Poacher (launch night 19th Apr), and while the issues with the Mezz are sorted Raw on the road will be presenting five bands at the Anchor on the High St on Saturday 19th. Sires Of Nothing10.04.08 Sires of Nothing are preparing for their headline show in London's Grand Union on Wednesday (16th April), whilst putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming EP and finalising the artwork for their limited release acoustic album, "An Evening With Sires of Nothing".

Their recent Mezz Bar gig was filmed by Buzz TV and can be found in its entirety on the site www.the-buzz.tv.

Meanwhile, Sires drummer Mark is spending May playing reunion dates with his old band, the hugely successful blues outfit 'The Hoax', who begin their tour headlining Holland's 'Moulin Blues' festival, before playing a handful of British and Dutch dates. Nightvision07.04.08 Nightvision activities as it has been a bit quiet recently on the gig scene because of a serious illness of a close relative. However the band have been using the time to work hard on new material with a couple of brand new songs progressing really well. The guys are raring to go for their next gig at Rock Haven on Friday 18th April and looking forward to the usual fantastic atmosphere this venue provides and hope to see plenty of support new and old along for what should be a very lively night. Nightvision have added a Glasgow venue, the prestigious city centre rock bar 'Rockers' - Wed 23rd July to their northern mini tour in late July. This will add to headline spots in Manchester, Greater Manchester and Wakefield and the band are looking forward to playing in front of new audiences with their very individual brand of original heavy rock. Nightvision recently carried out a live recording session by Matt Chapman at their rehearsal rooms at Metheringham Music Factory. The six tracks have not previously been recorded and these songs will form the basis of Nightvision's first album (plans to be announced later this year). There are no plans to release these songs prior to a full studio production and recording but Nightvision will be uploading a couple of tracks at a time onto their myspace site myspace.com/nightvision1000 to allow everone to have a listen and they will be interested in any feedback via the myspace site.

Kensal Rise06.04.08 Kensal Rise have uploaded tracks from their forthcoming EP 'Colour Surround' to their myspace (myspace.com/kensalrise). The EP was recorded in Sheffield at 2Fly Studios with Dave Sanderson. The EP will be launched officially soon, so watch out for details of the launch party.

 

 


Dancing Lotus05.04.08 Dancing Lotus would like to pass on their thanks to everyone that came to the Mezz Bar on Thursday night. A packed house, and a great crowd! The guys have been booked to play on the AU ball night in the Engine Shed, on the 24th April, hitting the stage at 11.15pm till 12/12.15pm and everyone is welcome. They are hoping to be recording this summer and are sorting out the bands direction and next move, as a lot of the members will be finishing uni, but things are looking promising and they'll be hanging around for at least a year!

 

 

 

 

 


RaW 04.03.08 Change of venue

Due to problems beyond RaW’s control, This Saturday’s event at Mezz Bar has been quickly re-located to The George & Dragon, High St. Same wicked bands, same smooth organisation, same great sound and soundman, this time Ross from DB Studios! Stage time will be 9pm for Tiger Warsaw, and still free entry. Chris & Martin would be over the moon to see the same faces that attend RaW at Mezz at this new location. B Festival02.04.08 The rumours about a festival at Bishop Grot, have finally been confirmed. The B Festival is on Wednesday 14th May and kicks off at 5.00pm. There are live bands including Joey Nightmare, Dry Rise, The Living Daylights and more plus an acoustic stage featuring Joe Mac, Sam Harrison an more. Entry is £5.00 (£4.00 with NUS) . Dancing Lotus 02.04.08 It’s the final Pillow Sessions at Mezz Bar this Thursday 3rd April in association with RaW. Resident band Dancing Lotus have had a great time the past few months with Chris & all at Mezz Bar, including Nathan Fairweather on sound duties. Their thanks extends to all the hip-hop, R’n’B and acoustic acts, not to mention Rockin Bob for making these one of truly memorable party’s at Mezz to date. Last one will be a more lively affair with Doncaster band The Torn, Wakefield band New Vinyl joined by hip hop act Brow & acoustic singer Carl Blades. MusicTek 02.04.08 Dave Wright runs MusicTek in Dagenham London and would like to offer preferential treatment to bands from Lincolnshire to perform at his venue, but, needs something in return first. He manages 3 bands, one of which is Retrofin whose debut album has been self released through their online shop, CD baby and iTunes. YoungPlugged02.04.08 Molly Lyon, the organiser of the YoungPlugged events at the Drill Hall needs a couple of extra sofas. Do you have an old sofa you're about to tip? It would be used for young plugged events and kept at the Drill Hall. They would also need it delivering. Molly is aware it’s a lot to ask but if you do have one or know anyone who might have one or two please email Molly. LiveRiot01.04.08 LiveRiot myspace.com/theliveriotuk would like to extend a big thanks to all the bands, venues, fans old and new (Rioters!), Soundman Dave and to Stu from The Lock Up Jam House & Studio (near Carholme Road) for all their support, help and fun during such a wicked month doing ‘This Is Lincoln Modern Rock n Roll Tour’ in March.
In April they have a few more local gigs along the same theme (different venues than the norm) Sat 5th, The Black Swan, Sat 12th City Vaults with LiveRiot Dj Sets from front man Sambo and bassist Chris. There are 2 more shows out of town (both all ages) Immingham Fri 4th at Solway Club and Leicester Fri 25th at The Charlotte with The Screening, the band they played with at The Water Rats a few months back.
