The Frontline

31.03.08 The Frontline headline a gig this Thursday at Lincoln's newest venue, The Vent, on Monks Road. Support comes from Horncastle's Dirty Protest plus Wasted Youth and Last Promise. The gig kicks off at 7.00pm and costs £2.00

30.03.08 Graham and Lucy from White Noise are putting on monthly acoustic nights every first Thursday of the month, at Coffee Aroma on Guildhall Street in Lincoln. The Silver Lakes

30.03.08 The Silver Lakes are now part of an online independent record company called Band Republic. Every six weeks 6 bands compete against each other to win the chance of having a single released in the UK charts. Currently, The Silver Lakes are around 50 votes behind the leading band. White Noise

30.03.08 Last week on White Noise we had our first ever performer in the studio, Lee Mitchell, who was brilliant. Eastroad

29.03.08 Ex-pats Eastroad continue their onslaught of the capital with a prestigious gig at The Brixton Jamm. The trio are playing a Darfur Benefit gig alongside Naomi Bedford, Tracey Curtis and host of others. They are also playing The Borderline and The Barbican, amongst others. The Engine Shed

28.03.08 Following the phenomenal success of their first two singles ‘Balloons’ and ‘Cassius’ and the critical acclaim already afforded to the recently release debut album ‘Antidotes’ (in shops from March 24th 2008) FOALS have announced a UK Autumn tour which is set to make stop at the Engine Shed, Lincoln on Friday October 10th 2008, tickets for this go on sale Friday April 4th @ 9am and are available through engineshed.ticketline.co.uk or 08714244555.  Tickets are also still available for Billy Bragg, Guilliemots, and Supergrass


The Idlers

28.03.08 The Idlers first gig with their new drummer is at the Mezz Bar on 11th April. The press release said "The Idlers are pleased to announce our first gig with our new drummer Jason Parker. His first outing will be at The Mezz Bar on Friday 11th April, and we want as many people to come down and welcome him to the Lincoln music scene. The night starts at 8pm, with support coming from top local talent TV Kicks, Blacklight and Joe Mac. Its free entry so theres no excuse not to come down and join the party! We are also playing in Hull at The Sesh on April 22nd too."


This Day Remains

28.03.08 This Day Remains from Grantham have now made the regional finals of National Live and Unsigned 2008 band competition. They play in Wolverhampton on April 13th to try and win through to the Grand Final in London. For full details see press release

YoungPlugged

27.03.08 The next YoungPlugged has been announced. Its to be held again at The Drill Hall, where musicians aged 13-19 will be impressing the audience (the last YoungPlugged had over 350 people turn up!). Sevenday Weekend

25.03.08 Sevenday Weekend, who recently played with LiveRiot on their tour round Lincoln (and would like to extend their thanks for a great turnout) have announced more gigs. Bivouac

24.03.08 The Bivouac has confirmed more line ups over the coming weeks, starting this Thursday (27 Mar), with This City from Brighton. Support comes from They Call Us Vandals, Cruise Control and one more to be announced. April sees visits from I Killed Pharoah, The Whiskey Cats and Four Foot Fingers. Full listings

Access To Music

23.03.08 Make the most of the long weekend and get along to the Cell tomorrow (24th Mar), where Access To Music are showcasing some quality bands. The event starts at 4.00 and runs til late and is free entry. Dorp, from London, currently on a nationwide tour to support the release of their latest single - Rollercoaster - headline, with support coming from 9 local bands and artists, plus DJ slots until the early hours.


Rock Haven

22.03.08 Rock Haven, the rock bar on Butchery Court, now has a myspace site myspace.com/the_rock_haven where you can keep up to date with what bands are lined up to play there. Over the coming weeks they have Sevenday Weekend (Apr 4th), Punch the Monkey (Apr 11th), Nightvision (Apr 18th), The Eccentrics (Apr 25th) and blues from The Jason North Band (May 9th). More dates listed on the Rock Haven site. Thursdays and Sundays are jam nights.

21.03.08 FearOfHatred are to reform to complete an album and possibly perform a farewell gig. Founder member, Steve Cowan, feels there were things left unfinished following their untimely and abrupt split last year. Look out for more news coming soon.


As Death Creeps Forwards

21.03.08 Tuesday 25th March the Library Bar plays host to As Death Creeps Forwards promotions. The gig, which is £5 to get in boasts the monstrously heavy Martyr Defiled from Nottingham (featuring Rick Duffin ex of Rides The Bus and also A Fallen Hero and Dave Hinman (ex Passing Of A Thousand Hearts). Support comes from Boston's Knife Attack,Silent Screams and B Movie Superstars.

 

 

 

 


CD Fair

Leap To India

17.03.08 Last Saturday's charity event hosted by Dawn at Aurora Promo at The Traveller's Rest raised a staggering £350 for the Leap To India charity. Gareth Jenkins, who got the ball rolling for the event would like to extend his thanks to Dawn & Steg at Aurora, all of the bands that played, Nathan Fairweather and Rich with the lights. And a big thank you to all that attended and dug depp in their pockets.

16.03.08 The latest LincolnBands podcast is now available. James has been a bit busy with work and a number of other projects but has made time to provide Episode 3. Dead Sentinel, The Mirrors, PlaguesFire and Korrosive are just some of the bands featured. You can stream or download from zShare.


Leap To India

13.03.08 This Saturday at The Trav's is something of a special night. Gareth Jenkins (drummer with Clara Maass) is hoping to raise lots of money to provide much needed medication in India. £3 buys medicine for one person. Proceeds from the gig will go towards The Leap to India charity. All the bands (Clara Maass (playing their final gig), Crotch Capers, Escape From This, The Naira Project and Korrosiv) are being very supportive of the event as are Aurora Promotions, Nathan Fairweather and Richie the lighting guy. So go along, enjoy the bands, support the charity (and dig your hands in your pockets - donations more than welcome).

12.03.08 RaW’s back to normal this weekend after 2 great birthday parties (and hangovers!) BBC Radio Lincolnshire favourites Blacklight from Louth host the night, and its great to see bands getting involved more with posters and line up decisions. One Big Wellington Boot

11.03.08 One Big Wellington Boot will be carrying on with things as usual despite the recent (unexpected) closure / redevlopement / sale of Bar Fusion. Band From County Hell

09.03.08 Celtic rock band The Band From County Hell have been supporting Stiff Little Fingers on a number of gigs and gaining converts along the way. Their list of upcoming gigs is way too long to list here, but highlights include this years Glastonbury, The Acoustic Festival of Great Britain (w/Jethro Tull, Marillion, Fairport Convention, Jah Wobble among others) and The Acoustic Festival alongside the like of the Legendary Steve Cropper, Bad Company and Curved Air. Plagues Fire

09.03.08 Black metal outfit PlaguesFire won last night's Big Bang Band Competition grand final. The event, which was run by Aurora Promotions at The Traveller's Rest has seen some fierce competition, from a host of local bands across all genres. The final consisted of PlaguesFire, Dead Sentinel, White On White, August Underground and Joy Riding Range. Well done to PlaguesFire and commiserations to the other bands, all of which, by all accounts, put in some sterling performances.


Jose Vanders

07.03.08 Jose Vanders will be making an appearance at Top Shop in Lincoln, before her gig at the Drill Hall on April 5th. She will be playing a couple of tracks and signing copies of her EP from around 4.00pm

IWACS CD

07.03.08 I Was A Cub Scout have just finished a month long tour to promote their recently released debut album 'I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope'. The Album is available from all major outlets or online at HMV, Amazon etc (as well as IWACS Myspace. Now it's time for relentless touring around the world as they promote the album in more than just the UK. This starts next week when they are happy to say they are going over to USA for South By Southwest to play a few shows. The guys are playing BBC6 Music's showcase, The NME Show, and The XL Recordings day show over the course of the week. Then they're back and have a couple weeks off before heading off around the country as main support to their friends in Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. This tour is for 8 days, then after another week, if all goes to plan, they head off back to the states for a two week jaunt with their good friends Foals.


Walkabout - JD Battle Of The Bands

06.03.08 Its time for the JD Soundcheck Battle Of The Bands at Walkabout across England and Scotland. The main prize this year is £5000 worth of kit!! This year's event in Lincoln is on Friday 4th April, so if your band wants to enter (and for the chance to win that amount of kit) email wbi.lincoln@regent-inns.plc.uk. The winners of the Lincoln heat go on to do battle at the Regionals in Nottingham with a chance to go through to the National Final (more details here). All band members must be 18+. As the event is running in a couple of weeks applications need to be sent in quickly.


The Dark Mantra

05.03.08 Prog rock trio The Dark Mantra have a number of gigs coming up. They're at the Library Bar (14th March), and then over to Donny to play at The Vintage Rock Bar (March 28) and back in Lincoln to play the Biv (25 April). Full details at myspace.com/darkmantramusic

04.03.08 LiveRiot have a couple of date and support changes to their mini Lincoln tour, unfortunately due to matters out of their control, they will not be playing The Lincoln Imp Sat 8th March, however its now at The Plough Inn, North Hykeham with The Mirrors in support. 04.03.08 This Saturdays RaW 2nd Birthday Party Part II welcomes back 2 ex pats Vinyl Collide (Leeds) & Nojunknosoul (London) who have both been doing well in their new cities, plus they’ve both got new tunes on their myspace. Vinyl Collide also have a ‘Rockumentary’ up on YouTube Locals joining the party are Owsley Sunshine & Kensal Rise We don’t know what time the night will start yet as Fred plays guitar for Kensal Rise & bass for August Underground who are in the final at The Trav’s in the band comp that night, so get there for 8pm onwards! DJ Martin is back behind the decks after touring Venezuela, Guyana & Suriname over Christmas. The night will be filmed by new Lincoln based production company The Buzz (more details on this one later!)

03.03.08 Joe Mac got played on BBC 6 Music`s `Introducing...` with Tom Robinson on Saturday. They played `Verity's Town', and please could everybody vote for the track to be played again on next week's show. You can vote for it at vote for Joe Mac (check number 18 in the list to vote).

 

 


Road To V

03.03.08 This year's Road To V has started. The on-line vote gives unsigned bands a chance to play at the V Festival. Dancing Lotus have already signed up and you can vote for them here. Let's see if we can get a band from Lincoln(shire) there this year.

Aurora Promotions

03.03.08 After a few months and a lot of excellent bands competing in the Big Bang Band Competition, the Grand Final is upon us. Aurora Promotions have organised an ongoing event which seems to have built up a great following and a solid reputation. For once, in a BOTB competition, there has been no recriminations after the heats. The final, which is at The Trav's this coming Saturday (8th March) will see PlaguesFire, Dead Sentinel, White On White, August Underground and Joy Riding Range compete to be named winner. Tickets are £5 in advance and £6 on the door. Doors open at 7.00pm


White On White

03.03.08 White On White have announced a number of upcoming gigs over the next few months. This coming Wednesday (5th March) sees them at Edwards in Peterborough (with Verax), a local gig on Saturday (8th March) in the Final of The Big Bang Band Comp at The Trav's. 14th March they are back on their travels playing at The Marquee in Norwich, followed by Boston's Axe and Cleaver (8th April) and further gigs in Coalville and Horncastle. Please note their upcoming gig at Old Nick's scheduled for 19th March has been rescheduled due to the pub's refurb. Full details at myspace.com/whiteonwhitemusic


The Engine Shed

01.03.08 The Engine Shed has added more names to their ever increasing list of upcoming gigs. Supergrass play the venue in April (17th), followed by Scouting For Girls (Apr 18th) and The Charlatans in May (17th). Tickets are still available for Billy Bragg (May 4th).
