07.01.08 Alternative Friday Promotions are a new promo outfit who are going to be promoting gigs at The Library Bar. Chris one of the AFP crew says "I'm at University of Lincoln and have been in a gigging pop-punk/hardcore band at home for quite a while now (see myspace.com/theslapstix). I put on some shows at home and helped a lot at other shows too. The Library Bar was looking to putting on shows and I got involved and did a few shows before Christmas and tested the water. We got good feedback and want to put on more shows, every other Friday, with someone else possibly doing metal shows on Saturdays, although I'm happy to have metal on Fridays. I'm working for the bar and so far I'm in charge of who plays (but not what money they get). I'm open to any kind of music if I think it'll bring in a crowd. We charge £2 on the door, or tickets in advance (same price). We're hoping to get a sponsorship that'll allow us to put on some bigger name bands, but the main aim is to give local bands, new and with experience, a new venue to play that's close to them and that'll have a friendly and exciting atmosphere. We want to help build the "alternative" music scene in Lincoln, and just enjoy live music." Upcoming events include Officer Kicks (21 Jan) and The Acclaimed (1 Feb). Bands are needed for future nights so contact Chris via .myspace.com/alternativefridayspromotions |
