Live! Live! Live!
25.01.07: 2007 is supposed to be the Year Of Live Music; seems that here in Lincolnits been taken to heart with all the promoters providing a great selection of fantastic local and not so local bands playing over the next couple of months. There are so many gigs over the next couple of months at The Bivouac, Christopher's, The Traveller's Rest and The Engine Shed, there shouldn't be any excuse not to catch up with some excellent live music. Eddie Harrison Tour
24.01.07: Eddie Harrison is starting his first proper tour in mid February and would like to kick it off in Lincoln on either the 16th or 17th February. He has already arranged a headliner for the night – Monster Bobby who plays in The Pipettes – and wants to hijack your club night! He needs a venue to put the gig on in the evening on either of those nights (depending on which you can give him) and is wondering if you will let him use your venue or even better, hijack your club night and book the bands and put the gig on there. He would be incredibly grateful if you could help him out and would be a great kicking off his first proper tour in Lincoln with an ace night which could easily be a sell out! You can get in contact with him, prefereably on his myspace page or send an email to isthispop@hotmail.com He appreciate if you got in contact as soon as possible! |

Last Raw Night at The Cell
21.12.06: Pete went along to the last Raw night at the Cell, with his camera and reported: "Wednesday 20th December saw the very last ever Raw at the Cell before its relocation over to Christophers bar on Newland at the start of next year - and it was a completely packed house. Six acts played both upstairs and down with a bit of overlap between now and again. Upstairs, lead vocal Jimmy of Tetra Valium was glammed up to the max - in a gold dress with matching waistcoat and purse and a black wig and his familiar shades. Silly in style but not musically as they opened and set the tone for a festive night of purposeful indie rock. Cherry Willingham lads Park Bench Theory followed with their own up-for-it Madchester attitude and well worked songs with Vinyl Collide, back for a Christmas visit from their new life in Leeds meeting with a full on rapturous welcome. It was all very glittery and a bit manic by the end as the old faves were performed to an adoring crowd. They were reduced to a ramshackle close by a jolly stage invasion which ensured no-one could mistake the event for a typical mid-week gig night. It's Christmas! As the Cell emptied out into the freezing fog of the longest, bitterest night of the year it is nice to anticipate that RAW nights next year could maintain some of this big draw success and give Lincoln's live music scene greater credibility." Pics of the upstairs bands are at www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs/cell201206 webspace. |

2007 - A Good Start
20.01.07: Apparently, 2007 is the Year Of Live Music. Seems like we're making a good start here in Lincoln. As previously mentioned Lipstick Entourage are at the Engine Shed in Feb, After Dark and A Fighting Chance, two young bands starting to make a name on the local scene, have a joint tour lined up, taking in Grantham, Lincoln, Newark and Hull and ambient metal band Fear Of Hatred, start gigging this year after some time honing their tunes and gaining themselves a lot of respect for their tunes. Everyone knows how many gigs I Was A Cub Scout have lined up and Eastroad, who have moved to London have a string of gigs round the big city including The Hope & Anchor. |

Columbian Hits - A Success
17.01.07: Last night's showcase was a resounding success. Christopher's was rammed and all the bands put in excellent performances. A big thanks to all the bands, Chris, Jonah, Josh and of course Neil for making the event go of without a hitch. Marc and Ollie, from Columbia Records were impressed with the standards of the bands and the general professionalism of the event. Nice one Lincoln!! Pete was there with camera: "Despite scepticism the Man from Columbia actually turned up to check
out the phenomenon that is the alternative live music scene here in
Lincoln. Instead of the bands having to make the 300 mile round trip
to play in a tired out venue which is deserted apart from some North
American tourists, people hiding from the rain and five loyal fans in
tow - this was a precious gesture of support from inside the industry. |

Callum Howell Rest In Peace
14.12.06: It is with profound sadness that I bring you the news of the death of Callum Howell, guitarist with MCD. He was found dead yesterday (13th Dec) . He was 18. Callum has spent the last six years playing guitar with MCD, which he co-founded with Dan Brogan and Gaz Mackie when he was only twelve. At the age of 13 he took the band through to the finals of the Scunthorpe Rock Open, where one of his tunes – “Alone” won over the judges and critics alike. Callum also played in the much loved Dead Girls Never Struggle and The Agents. This year as well as going out on tour twice with MCD he filled in on guitar with The Infested from Leeds on their nationwide tour and played with Strza Crack in front of 20,000.

Raw Launch Night
07.01.07: Pete was at the Raw Launch at Christopher's last Saturday night. Seems like he was very impressed "Relocated this year from the Cell to Christophers, Chris and the whole RAW team presented a top debut night for Lincoln gig-goers. With the aid of independent record store Sonic Sounds the upstairs has been refurbed and new look suggests this venue is a legend in the making. Rory was on the decks downstairs, the bar-staff were in black RAW branded Tees and upstairs the ticketing, sound mixing and band intros were all handled by a team that look good and keep the show on the road with some style. This is a serious attempt at offering an alternative music scene here in our City with vision, increasing the credibility and hopefully achieving the all important 'tipping point'. It was great to see members of bands in attendance (from Starter, Rotary Ten and IWACS) who were there to show support - nice one. The crowd ebbed and flowed but must have been close to a hundred strong across the night and that gives a buzz for bands who need to know how good their music sounds beyond playing in a lonely rehearsal hall. There were some various technical hitches though and some of the bands seemed inconsistent and have played better sets - but this is their chance to dig in and improve their game for next time and shouldn't lose belief. It was all good. The five bands who played on the opening night, in running order, were - Sanctimonious, The Small Print, Dazed Dakotas, Lipstick Entourage and The Jubilees. Some photos online at www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs - Top night. Looking good for 2007" |
