Last Raw Night at The Cell
21.12.06: Pete went along to the last Raw night at the Cell, with his camera and reported: "Wednesday 20th December saw the very last ever Raw at the Cell before its relocation over to Christophers bar on Newland at the start of next year - and it was a completely packed house. Six acts played both upstairs and down with a bit of overlap between now and again. Upstairs, lead vocal Jimmy of Tetra Valium was glammed up to the max - in a gold dress with matching waistcoat and purse and a black wig and his familiar shades. Silly in style but not musically as they opened and set the tone for a festive night of purposeful indie rock. Cherry Willingham lads Park Bench Theory followed with their own up-for-it Madchester attitude and well worked songs with Vinyl Collide, back for a Christmas visit from their new life in Leeds meeting with a full on rapturous welcome. It was all very glittery and a bit manic by the end as the old faves were performed to an adoring crowd. They were reduced to a ramshackle close by a jolly stage invasion which ensured no-one could mistake the event for a typical mid-week gig night. It's Christmas! As the Cell emptied out into the freezing fog of the longest, bitterest night of the year it is nice to anticipate that RAW nights next year could maintain some of this big draw success and give Lincoln's live music scene greater credibility." Callum Howell Rest In Peace
14.12.06: It is with profound sadness that I bring you the news of the death of Callum Howell, guitarist with MCD. He was found dead yesterday (13th Dec) . He was 18. Callum has spent the last six years playing guitar with MCD, which he co-founded with Dan Brogan and Gaz Mackie when he was only twelve. At the age of 13 he took the band through to the finals of the Scunthorpe Rock Open, where one of his tunes – “Alone” won over the judges and critics alike. Callum also played in the much loved Dead Girls Never Struggle and The Agents. This year as well as going out on tour twice with MCD he filled in on guitar with The Infested from Leeds on their nationwide tour and played with Strza Crack in front of 20,000.

Photos from Pete
10.012.06: Pete came along to A Nightmare Before Christmas, took some photos and had this to say: "Several bands made a brave attempt to pretend Babyshambles weren't in
town and turned up to play the lincolnbands' Xmasfest night at
Christophers. It might not have been the most sensationally wrapped
present under the Christmas tree in comparison but it made up for it |

The Idlers & Dirty Pretty Things
10.12.06: "The Idlers played a gig in Newcastle last Thursday night. Dirty Pretty Things were also DJing at the venue after their sold out gig at the Carling Academy. After The Idlers set, the guys were approached by DPTs who, said that they were really impressed, and asked if they could borrow gear to play some tunes. So, making use of the borrowed gear they played their hits and a couple of covers. The Idlers got to hang out with them and found them to be really cool guys. Dirty Pretty Things are at The Engine Shed on Tuesday and The Idlers are playing in York on the same day. For pictures, see the Idlers myspace" |
