Crisis Studios - Gigs in Newark anyone?
29 June 06: Crisis Studio may not have mentioned on Lincoln Bands recently but it doesn't mean they've been idle! They have been providing the PA for showcase nights at The Atrium in Newark for the management company 19 Miles High who have been promoting a couple of their bands.
Although the management company have now stopped putting on these evenings Crisis are looking at continuing them to offer any local bands, who are looking for a chance to play, the opportunity to do so without the usual costs involved in hiring in a PA etc. They have invested in replacement equipment recently and now use an Ohm TRS touring rig with four-way foldback mix purchased ex-hire from Stage Electrics. The Atrium on Castle Gate in Newark is an excellent venue that is fast gaining a reputation for live music.
These gig nights will be held every Monday. They are putting on two bands at a time, one at 9pm and one at 10pm, both bands soundchecking between 8pm and 8:30pm. As they are not charging admission to the public they are not able to offer any payment for bands but are looking for anyone who might want to use this as an opportunity to tighten up before a more high profile gig or indeed just use it as a chance to gain invaluable gigging experience.
Anyone who is interested can contact Darren either by phone on 07855 331175 or by email at darren@crisis-studio.co.uk.

Swetbox @ Rock Haven
28 June 06: "Imagine a Horror Metal band fronted by Angelina Jolie's crazed character in Girl, Interrupted. Singer Vivid Angel is all fake blood, flying hair and rolling eyeballs, whilst guitarist JROK looks and sounds like a gene splice of Charles Manson and Slayer's Kerry King. Swetbox are not a pretty sight, In Other words, check them out!" - Bob Glanville - Rock Sound UK

Reviewers/Feature Writers Wanted
24 June 06: Having an excellent response to the Lincoln Bands survey - a very big thank you to all who have taken the time to complete it and send it in. There's around two weeks to go so still plenty of time for you to send in your opinions. The results will be put on the website around 14th July. However, one thing that is apparent is that most people thank that there aren't enough reviews and/or features on the site. So, this is a call for anyone with a talent for the written word and a love of music. We NEED writers! We obviously can't offer any incentives apart from getting your work posted on the site and occasionally a band requests a CD/Gig review and offers a free CD or free entrance to a gig. There is no pressure, you review as and when you are able. We're also looking for features, this can be anything related (however loosely) to the local scene and beyond. All we ask is that you have a reasonable command of the English language (and a spell checker in your word processing software). Interested? Email admin@lincolnbands.co.uk

Anemic + The Absent Minded Photos
24 June 06: Pete and camera were at the Bivouac on 18th June. Pete says about the night: "At the Biv last Friday a decent sized crowd of young Lincoln's
metalheads gathered for a summer evening of moshing madness. Even
though headliners failed to show nobody went home disappointed. Local
band The Absent Minded warmed us up and when Bristol based Anemic
opened they were instantly urged on by a frenzy of raised skinny arms
and skinny bodies driven to riotous mayhem on the dancefloor. The
hormonal sparks worked both ways and the gloriously tattooed guys in
black were riding high on the response they were getting, praising
Lincoln fans for giving them the best night of their national tour.
I'm not a metal fan as such but this was great music for reasons that I
don't need to explain to anyone who made it there." Photos online

Christopher's Pics
10 June 06: With four gigs on the same night Lincoln was spoiled for live music
tonight (9 June). Christopher's played host to three bands, though circumstances
meant that only two got to perform. Openers from Sleaford were new
band IMYBIKE. Mesmerising musically with aggressive vocals that at
first repelled but eventually seduce some of us in the audience. A
gripping sound from a young band who are recklessly prepared to
alienate in their search for defining their niche. Both arrogant and
beguiling they look the part and will appeal to the disaffected who
need to own something unique and edgy. Local band Starter followed
and with young new drummer Mike on board showed they are back having
found a new twist on their set. In the two months since their last gig
they have adapted their music around a clean and precise drum sound
that revamps their material from the ground up. Seven Day Weekend
were about to take to the stage for the final performance on the night
when the power went down on the block. Even though bassist Colin
resorted to strumming along on a dead guitar - to his mobile playing
mp3s of the band's songs - it wasn't quite enough to sustain the crowd
who reluctantly melted away into the warm summer night. Photos of the
first two acts at www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs.

CockYerLeg and more
02 June 06: CockYerLeg have called it a day due to musical differences. But fear not, there's new bands afoot. First Ash and Sam have left Harbinger and been replaced by Jacko (Anxiety 9) and Eric Whaler (ex Bodiez In The Basement). Sam and Ash have joined up with some of the CockYerLeg boyos and formed a thrash metal band, who are, as yet unnamed, but having productive rehearsals and have some "home" recordings, The line-up is:
Richard Gilbert - Vocals
Martyn Bewick - Guitar
Ash Holmes - Guitar
Danny Akers - Bass
Sam Hudson - Drums
Watch out for them soon. Martyn Bewick has not been idle since the demise of CYL, along with the aforementioned thrash outfit, he has a solo project (The Icarus Project) which he is taking down to London on the Artist Development program that he's hopefully starting in September. And, as if this wouldn't keep most people busy he designs custom guitar art and album artwork and teaches guitar (check out flyer for details).
