April 06

EmmNet

30 Apr 06: EmmNet (The East Midlands Musicians Network) has relocated to the North Kesteven area. Maurice contacted me to ask that I make people "aware that the funding and project is there" and to encourage you all to get involved in a regional way.  Maurice goes on to say "remember that not all of the bands/promoters/etc. need to be from the district as long as at least some of them are based there to qualify for assistance and funding." Emmnet, in the past has provided funding for a number of local/regional events, and Maurice on behalf of EmmNet has been a valuable source of information to this site. Well worth checking out their website at www.emmnet.org and getting yourself/your band registered. Contact for further details.

Wave Of Oscillation

29 Apr 06: Just had news of a new On-Line radio station, which aims to feature as many new, upcoming or established bands from around the Lincolnshire, Hull or Nottinghamshire area. Check out the website at www.waveofoscillation.co.uk. Ben, who runs Wave Of Oscillation is looking for bands to be included and can be contacted on Ben@waveofoscillation.co.uk. Give Ben some support and tune in.

New Indie Night

27 Apr 06: Chris (from The Idlers) and Rory (from Rotary Ten) are starting up a new Indie night at The Glasshouse in Lincoln. Playing all the hits, classics and requests from 8pm til 11pm the first one (being bill as the end of exams alternative" party!) is on Thursday 11 May (and as a further inducement to go along they are offering treble trebles (3 spirit trebles and mixer) for £5! The Idlers (who have just posted two tracks on the LB site) are currently working on new tracks so following the gigs they have in May, June may be a quiet month for the guys but watch out for news in July

RSG Promotions

25 Apr 06: RSG Promotions are a music, media and merchandising company that are worth checking out. Also on the bill are The Eccentrics, The Red Sharks and Breene. The Bombdogs final gig is at The Indian Queen in Boston on Sunday 30 April, with a stack of other bands. Worth going along to. It makes up a night not to be

The Uptown Decadence Unit Pics

23 Apr 06: Bravekid Promotions presented a fine mix of bands last nith (22 Apr) at The Duke. Again Pete was there to witness local and not so local bands giving some fine performances. Pete said of the night:

"Sometimes you go to a gig and their is a certain anxiety in the air that you can't put your finger on. Like an expectation of trouble or incident. And just when you had spent the evening listening to a few bands and that sensation has faded then something unfolds that makes you begin to realise your intuition was in fact uncannily well founded. The cause for concern turned out to be headliners on the night 'The Uptown Decadence Unit' from somewhere down South, Northampton, I think. Their sweet looking boyish lead vocal had been getting pissed up to and then during their set and what dutch courage he needed was put to perplexing effect. He'd commented that he had a big ego and his performance soon spiraled out of control as massive innate narcissism and some sociopathic deeply rooted neuroses were summoned up from just beneath the surface and boiled up in ranting lyrics and drunken clowning. Me producing the camera, of course, was extra encouragement and at times I decided not to take photos for a while to avoid death. Mine or his. After one flailing fall from several feet high atop a speaker onto his back it seemed highly unlikely he would be alive but he was somehow was able to crawl back onto the stage and build up momentum again. Blimey. By the last song the sound crew and promoter had to move in to dissuade him from one last more perilous ascent. The rest of the band somehow kept the whole thing rolling along and made it to the end hardly batting an eyelid at the antics. So, no-one actually got hurt or died - and against my better judgement I have to say "I don't know what that was for sure - but that's entertainment".

Rotary Ten & The Small Print Pics

21 Apr 06: Thursday night saw Rotary Ten headlining upstairs at The Cell.  Pete the photographer went along and this is what he had to say:

!Going on stage at 10.45pm they played to an appreciative audience of about fifty people who'd hung around after seeing the two support acts.  Several familiar faces in the audience were members of other local live acts so it was excellent to see the level of interest and support being shown for one of our top local indie bands.  Their usual high-spirited and energetic set was complimented with interesting new material and thanks to a very positive audience reaction a rare encore followed to round
off a typically high quality performance.

Also online now are some photos I took last week of The Small Print who at LN2.  Having formed a year ago this is definitely a talented three piece worth watching out for if you get the chance to see them play.  Despite a small turnout on the night they delivered their set with a forcefulness that makes you believe they are determined to  make the most of every chance to play live that they get.  Give them a listen and you may well be converted to the cause."

Some photos from both nights are at -  www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs

Angamanagement On The Up

08 Apr 06: Local management company Angamanagement, run by Rob Fabian are going from strength to strength. Not only are the gigs they're promoting proving to be extremely well attended (more than 100 people regularly turn up at The Penthouse in Sleaford - not at all bad for a Sunday night!), but have have good reports from the bands that have played there. Anga are also now getting in touring bands alongside local bands. Not content with running these nights they are now running monthly nights at Christophers (on the third Friday of every month) starting 21st April with Depol, Wreckset and Tauracine. The Difference Engine - New CD

01 Apr 06: Just received the full track listing for The Difference Engine's new CD A Light For The Lost, which was released 31 Jan 06. The CD is available from the Difference Engine website (www.thedifferenceenginemusic.com) and includes Abi Moore on vocals on one track. As we understand it this CD is a taster of a full length CD soundtrack to the film 'Last Exit For the Lost'. The promo info we received gave the following info on the tracks:

1. Inquisition (edit) - A three and a half minute version of the 9 minute behemoth that will appear on the main CD

2. A Light For The Lost (full version featuring Abi Moore on vocals) - Abi's a fantastic singer, the song is quite dreamy and doomy at the same time.

3. A Light For The Lost (film version) - More a piece of music than a song but the inspiration for a lot of the project and we thought people might want to hear it.

4. Carpe Deus (edit) this is the original version of the track as it appears in the film (and isn't going to be on the main soundtrack).

5. Forest's Edge

The Difference Engine also have a MySpace page at www.myspace.com/thedifferenceenginemusic
