iodo News

28 Mar 06: iodo return on 10th April with a three track ep of more indie/electronica madness. Nearly ten months in the making, 'walk-on role' showcases a sound that stretches from the white noise-infused 'angst' to the drama of 'r.t.a.' and the chilled-out vibes of 'bit-part actor'. And all on a mini-cd, in a cardboard case custom-designed by the group. just the right size for fitting in your pocket, ready to whip out when someone asks you who your new favourite band are! The ep will be available from the iodo website site (www.iodo.co.uk), which will be re-launched over the next few weeks, and also from the itunes music store from the end of April. iodo will be performing at Christopher's on friday 14th april, as part of the Strangelove night.

Manager Looking for bands

28 Mar 06: Details are a bit sketchy on this one, but had an email from a Lincoln based manager who is seeking new acts. Any bands interested should email their gig list to MonsterArtists@aol.com.

17 Mar 06: Get along to Kind this coming Tuesday (21st) for the open mic night and also catch Vincent Black Shadow. Kicks off around 8.30 with VBS on around 10 o'clock

Lincoln Bands Update

16 Mar 06: Nearly there with the backlog of updates, apart from the MP3s (Kallous, Gaucho and one from Knut's band). These will be posted once the broadband modem comes (been told that the line will be activated and modem here by 28 March). There'll be no updates next week as I'm off to catch some some. All emails will be sorted when I get back (27 Apr). If you have any news that can't wait till then, either post on the forum, add a comment on the MySpace or join the Yahoo user group and send a mailshot. Hopefully by the time I get back, all the bits of the CD Comp will be sorted and it will then be a matter of copying but will let the bands involved and everyone else know as soo as we have details confirmed.

Ratio 3 EP

16 Mar 06: Ratio 3 have just released an EP (13 March) which is available from their website (www.ratio3.co.uk) or at gigs. The guys are playing at The Shed in Leicester on April 1st, and this will be the last time you will catch them for a while as they prepare for upcoming exams.

Sigue Sigue Mentalmen

16 Mar 06: Can any of you remember Sigue Sigue Sputnik? Apparently Martin Degville has been lurking round Saxilby and happened to come across The League Of Mentalmen playing at The Sun. Degville is putting together a new line up, called Sputnik 2 and invited Tim, Nogg & Paul from the Mentalmen to join him. They played at The Underworld in Camden last Sunday and then on April 1st at The Crypt in Hastings. Currently writing a new album, I've been assured that Degville still wears mad outfits and has crazy hair!

The Difference Engine - New CD

13 Mar 06: The Difference Engine have just released a five track CD. If you like industrial Soundscapes then definitely worth checking out at www.thedifferenceenginemusic.com or www.tdem.co.uk

Lincoln Bands Yahoo User Group

12 Mar 06: This was set up a while ago by Vince and is a useful tool for its members. If you sign up and post your gigs on the calendar, it automatically sends out an reminder to all members a day or two before the event. Just one of the many uses but definitely worth it. Sign up by clicking on the link above or to the right.

Gigswaps

12 Mar 06: Two out of town bands looking for gig swaps, if anyone can help. The first is Exit Inertia, who come from Dartford in Kent and cite Thrice, Soulfly, InMe, Billy Talent, Spineshank, Papa Roach, LostProphets amongst their influences. They are on tour in April and looking for a gig on the 8th of April. They can sort out return show if any band/promoter can help out. Get in touch via their MySpace site /www.myspace.com/exitinertia

The second band are Rebel Radio, who come from Peterborough and have influences ranging from Sonic Youth, through Radiohead, Pixies and Muse, through to Hendrix, Dinosaur Jr, Pj harvey, Blur, and Queens of the stone age. Get in touch through www.myspace.com/rebelradioinfo or www.rebelradiouk.com

More Photos

11 Mar 06: Pete the Photographer has been out and about again, capturing two gigs this week, [starter]/The Stone Roses Experience at the Drill Hall and The Idlers, Catapult, One Word Poem and Rotary Ten at the Biv. Pete had the following to say:

"A capacity crowd enjoyed a magnificent support performance from [starter] who's material and musicianship were awesome on the night. Really impressive and got an appreciative response from people there to enjoy hearing the Stone Roses songs played live, loud and with shared passion. The Stone Roses Experience didn't claim to impersonate the legendary Manc band but set out to show how they felt about the songs. Let's face it tribute bands are not cool yet listening to a CD is not the same as hearing live music. This was the Stone Roses resurrected and a big reminder of what astonishing songsmiths the Roses were. Great night!

The Bivouac tonight was full. Full of people wanting to hear quality live bands and full of quality live bands wanting people to hear them - which was a happy coincidence. Nice one, Steve H. Bands were - The Idlers, Catapult, One Word Poem and Rotary Ten."

So why not take a look at the photos at the usual address - www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs, which, in our opinion (and that of quite a few others) is becoming an excellent pictorial archive of local gigs.

Error

09 Mar 06: In the New Promoters news item of 5 March, we stated that SimplyChrisLike promotes at the Monson Arms, it is in fact the Chequers Arms on Monson Street. Apologies to Chris. Also, Chris advised that Undertone is going to be hels at PoNaNa and not So:Luxe as stated.

Dana Whylie band in Session

09 Mar 06: Check out tomorrow night's The Mix on BBC radio Lincs to catch a session from Dana Whylie. Hailing from the south of the county, but due to hit Lincoln soon, be the first to catch a listen. The Mix 7 - 9 every Friday 94.9 FM BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Detour Records

09 Mar 06: We've been contacted by Detour Records, who mentioned that we hadn't got a double CD comp of The Cigarettes (one of the few Lincoln bands to grace John Peel's show). The album is available on CD and Vinyl and contains all the single tracks, compilation appearances and a wealth of unreleased tracks. Detour Records are also due to release another CD by a old Lincoln band - the Amber Squad. Check out their site for full details. www.detour-records.co.uk/bored_teenagers.htm

New Promoters

05 Mar 06: Just bringing you all up to date with a stack of new promoters/ events. We're nearly up to date with the amending the site following the PC crash, and we've just added new promoters. Gaz Bailey is back in the fray with Undertone at So:Luxe (Note: venue changed to PoNaNa). Undertone is promoting live Hip Hop nights which started with Skinnyman. Next up we have Simply Chris Like, who is running Hip Hop/Indie/Funk nights under the name of RaW at The Cell on Mint Street. Chris is also putting on events at The Burton Arms and The Chequers Arms (Monson Stree). Christopher's on Newland get two events Escalator (organised by Bill Marney the manager of Eastroad) and Stranglove a joint venture between Granticus, Nat and The Redcoats. Finally two DIY oufits Crash Doubt Promotions and Rock 'Ard Promotions who both cater mainly for the punk/hardcore/ska/metal fraternity. Watch out for upcoming events from these and support them if you can.

Meanwhile Steve Hawkins' list of upcoming gigs takes in bands from around the country and as far away as the States. Sugarcubes have every Thursday night for the next few weeks covered with local bands and on 6th April have Superstatic Records presenting 'Breene' with support and 20th April - Copro/Casket Records presenting 'Forever Never' on their
UK tour to promote their debut album "Aporia". Fuse, as ever, have a cool selection of bands and remember that events at the Delph are now open to non-students.

The gig-going week now starts on a Wednesday with RaW holding weekly events, Thursdays see Sugarcubes and Fuse, along with gigs at The Biv, Friday's include The Bivouac, and events at The Travellers. We've never had so much choice; this coming Thursday (9th March) there are four - yes FOUR!!! gigs on in town, and although this is an exception there seems to be quite a few nights coming up where you've got the choice of two or three gigs.

Acoustic Open Mic Nights @ Kind

05 Mar 06: Ben from Atlas has been in touch to ask us to let you all know about the Acoustic Open Mic Nights at Kind. The event runs until midnight every Tuesday, but performers should be there by 8.30 to guarantee a slot

Drill Hall Pics

05 Mar 06: Pete must have gone at breakneck speeds to get these photo's posted from yesterday's gig at the Drill Hall. You can check out what went on on Pete's site www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs

Out Of The Blue Reform

04 Mar 06: 'Out Of The Blue was put together in 1994, by singer, guitarist and award winning songwriter Kevin Thorpe, to fulfil a one-off gig at the Colne Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival. They received such a rapturous audience reception that they decided to stick around.

Out Of The Blue respect the blues tradition but they like to stretch the outside of the envelope. They look beyond the tried and tested 12 bar formula to create a modern, thoroughly original sound that fuses jazz, rock and of course blues. Whichever way you chew it, their music, with Kevin Thorpe's gravel and grit vocals, definitely comes from the heart to stir the soul. Lead guitarist Eddie Tatton is one of the hippest guitar players on the scene today, his inventiveness never ceases to amaze. Eddie's solos push back the boundaries of electric blues guitar, his unique style melding the poise of Robben Ford, with the grace of Larry Carlton to bring an unparalleled sophistication to Out Of The Blues' overall ensemble sound.

In addition Out Of The Blue have the very gifted keyboards player Jon Dyke ( Elkie Brooks Band, Patricia Kaas, Larry Garner Band) and a dynamic rhythm section with Nigel Lobley on drums and Simon Sparks on bass making them, for the discerning blues punter, the most rewarding live aesthetic experience available.' Scott Duncan, Blues in Britain Magazine.

Out Of The Blue have played major club and theatre dates all over the UK and Europe and regular guests on the Paul Jones Blues Show on BBC Radio 2. Kevin has played in the USA with Paul Rishell and Annie Raines at various Eastern Seaboard venues including the prestigious House of Blues in Boston; for these dates the band was augmented by guitar legend Ronnie Earl.

In February 2001 Kevin and Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges gave four performances at The Budweiser Low Country Blues Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

Out Of The Blue have toured the UK and European festival circuit with appearances at Burnley Blues Festival, The Great British RnB Festival at Colne, Oxford, London, Edinburgh Jazz Festival,GuinnessTemple Bar Blues in Dublin, Chalons-en-Champagne, Cognac and Coutances.

Out Of The Blue have also opened for the late Junior Wells, Robert Cray, Larry Garner, Robben Ford, Sherman Robertson, Peter Green and Tracy Nelson. OOTB were the choice of backing band for Phillip Walker and also the legendary Memphis Horns at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, the Temple Bar Festival and subsequent tour of Europe.

Out of the Blue have two albums available on the Armadillo label: Blues In A Bottle and Shadowplay

Nightvision to say farewell to vocalist

04 Mar 06: Sleaford hard Rock Band, Nightvision, who have been steadily building a growing reputation in an out of the county, with their exciting brand of high energy original music, reluctantly confirm the decision of lead Vocalist Adam Mulley to leave the band. Adam will be moving away to take up a university place later in the year but has made the decision to finish with the band at the end of April after completing a series of already confirmed gigs.

This is a huge disappointment to remaining Nightvision members, Neil Wallis, Daryl Hocking and Dean Hocking following an exciting eighteen months with the current line up but all associated with the band wish Adam good luck for the future. Nightvision have four confirmed gigs that Adam is available for with a final appearance on home territory at The Penthouse, Sleaford on Sunday April 23rd. Check out the gig page on www.nightvision1000.com and get along to see these final performances before Nightvision reform with a new vocalist. Check out the musicians wanted page if you are interested in a chance to be the lead vocalist with Nightvision.
