Boro-Bands
28 Dec 05: A site that's worth checking
out. Boro-Bands
is a similar site to this based in Peterborough. Along with
promoting the scene down in Peterborough, they're also keen
to help bands gig swap. So sign up to their forum, leave your
band details and you never know.

Minor Tweaks
21 Dec 05: Have made a few minor tweaks
to the site. One being the A-Z list, which was becoming so
big, has been broken down in sections, should load quicker
now. The other major change is that out of twon bands are
now included on the main list. We've always had a few bands
from out of town included on the site, but since we went MySpaced,
we've had quite a few more asking to be included. We're still
concentrating on bands from Lincoln and events in Lincoln
or showcasing Lincoln bands, but there will be other bands
include. It seemed prety natural to allow the site to grow.
We will though be sticking mainly to bands between the Humber
and the Wash or as an arbitrary distance of 50 miles. Out
of town bands will be identified on the A-Z list with
and their page will give their location. It might help build
up more crossover between bands in different locations. But
tha remains to be seen.
Please note:
the site is here to promote original bands
playing original music. The site takes a fair amount of time
to maintain as it is, so its unlikely that if you are a tribute/covers/club
band that we will have time to reply to your emails asking
to be included. The criteria for inclusion on the site is:
The band must predominantly play their own
material
The band must have played at least one gig
- not including those to purely friends and family
If you are a new band and your old band is
already included on the site your new band will be included
even if you have yet to play a gig.
The band must either be based in Lincoln
or (at the sites discretion) within 50 miles of Lincoln.
Any out of town bands must have a website
so that details can be verified
Its unlikely that there will be anymore updates
done until after Christmas. So all that remains is to thank
everyone for their support over the last year, and to the
bands and promoters that have worked so hard.
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2006.

Awesome Competition!!!
19 Dec 05: The following came through
this morning:
We are a Record Label, Music Publishing Company
and Music Production Company with Branches in Bridgetown ,
Barbados and very recently our first foreign branch office
in the UK in Lincoln, England.
We found out about your excellent website from
Matt Chapman ( Wreckset) who has done some work for us. Wreckset
also kindly performed as opening act for "Magnet Man", the
number one international artiste on our roster, at a Charity
event, Wreckset are a great bunch of guys ( the other band
who helped our charity show were Depol who we also liked a
lot!!) Check out www.magnetmanonline.com.
Magnet Man is co-owner and Managing Dirctor
of the Magnetic Image Companies.
Magnet Man's 2nd home is Lincoln where he has
a horse Farm! He commutes between Barbados and UK, now choosing
to record and produce, ( he is a top class producer) in the
UK only nowadays.
He likes to encourage and assist young acts,
he is a young singer/songwriter/ musician/producer and film
actor. Therefore we are running a 3 section competition.
It is a non-profit making competition ( three
sections) and would like you to post it on the site and help
us get contestants please. It is a great opportunity for young
bands to showcase, it is to be filmed as well. The voting
is to be partly by live audience and we will have a small
panel of experts there too.
There is a small entry/administration fee as
obviously we need to try and cover the costs of putting on
the contests southern and northern rounds, starting at the
Lincoln Drill Hall on 14th Jan,and all the expenses that will
incurr,. But the champion will recieve a fabulous prize! A
recording session PLUS they will be flown to BARBADOS to perform
at a top Venue in the sun! This will be in the summer of 2006.
There are two heats ( Nothern and Southern) Then a Grand final
early Summer 2006 )They winners will also receive good publicity
/ radio interviews and press in Barbados all handled by Magnetic
Image Artist Management Division.
We are also looking for any sponsors who may
like to assist in any way. Our record label side of the company
( Magnetic Image Records) are the main sponsors. Any sponsors
will recieve good publicity and a worthwhile package even
if just small sponsorship, all would be appreciated..
I will attach the official flyer / poster on
the next email. The flyer contains all the details in full.
Many thanks, we hope you will support this worthwhile competition
with its unique prize!

Steve H hospitalised
15 Dec 05: The Captain Everything, Pele,
Catapult , Colorpool gig at The Bivouac tomorrow night (16
Dec) has been cancelled.
Following the gig last night one of the speaker
stacks fell and Steve tried to stop it. Unfortunately his
hand was trapped under the stack and caused pretty extensive
damage to one of his fingers. He was taken to Lincoln hospital
but moved to Derby this morning, where by all accounts he
is awaiting an operation.
I'm sure you will join us at Lincoln Bands in
wishing him a very speedy recovery.
Best wishes Steve from all here at LB

Andy James
05 Dec 05: When we lose a friend, collectively
it’s the family we feel for and the tears we shed are for
the memories. I thought I’d take an objective moment to tell
you about someone I knew only fleetingly, but I would consider
a friend in the realms of music.
They say that he took his band to London and
set up camp in the playlist pile of John Peel; Age Baby was
just one of the many guises of Andy and reflected his personality
with great aplomb. For Andy was no regular Joe that you see
on the street and say ‘hiya’: Sometimes, he didn’t even look
at you, whilst other times he was the most gracious of fellas
and a fine example of self-deprecation. Age Baby came home
to roost I’m told because of his hatred of the industry, yet
he never stopped finding that elusive single, he did it on
his own terms…
I was lucky enough to meet him when I first
moved to Lincoln and my loss of music must have reached out
to not only him but others just like him, and these people
are still knocking about (be nice to them!). Andy knew everyone,
quite literally: some he had an opinion of, some he’d never
tell, others were simply riled by the lack of opinion he had
for anyone. He told that his band was playing the Falcon and
that I should go. Now if my memory serves me, this was about
the time that Gaz Bailey did the Falcon gigs and they really
ruled. Although a lot of politics around, he was quite secretive
about which camp he sat in and then other times he’d be totally
outlandish about his views. Either way I was and still am
a big fan of ‘Thee Execution Of…’ in which Andy exuded the
kind of rock star cachet last seen on Billy Fury, Iggy Pop,
Henry Rollins or Glenn Danzig. He used to talk quite randomly
and I think that was his schtik “Branston Pickle crisps” he
once said to me after I’d ranted on about some band or other.
But don't get me wrong, Andy James knew his music, he knew
exactly what he was on about in music, even if he didn't always
make himself clear.
Its funny when someones gone because
you think to yourself oh I wish I could tell him x,y,z.
So heres what I wanted to say
-
Age Baby were amazing, I found you
5 years too late
-
You look good in that black leather
jacket
-
Why didnt you play out of Lincoln?
-
Thanks for buying me that pint of
Coke that day, it was a nice thing to do to someone you
didnt know.
I think Kelly has summed up everyones thoughts.

The Delph Bar Pics
03 Dec 05: The Delph Bar gig on Thursday
December 1st looked to be down and out when The Selecter failed
to show up, but thanks to MCD agreeing at a couple of hours
notice to open, the night went ahead anyway and became a full
on night of Lincoln metal, indie and punk. Luckily plenty
of people stuck around and after claiming a refund on the
advertised gig settled for a night of lively homegrown music
from MCD,
[starter]
and The
Eccentrics for just a couple of quid instead. Photos of
the bands at www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs

The Wreckset - update
02 Dec 05: The
Wreckset, who are firmly ensconced in Scorpion Studios
recording an album, have now got a settled line up and are
making a push back out into the "live" arena after
a fairly lengthy lay-off. You can catch they guys tonite (2
Dec) at The Bivouac, Martha's on 13th and The Library Bar
on 16th. To whet your appetite, there's a new "Work In
Progess" demo version of Exit
Wound been added to the site today. Although it's still
being worked on, it certainly gives an indication of what
The Wreckset are about.
