Ben's Strange Guitars

27 Sept 05: Have been contacted by a chap called Ben, who sings with Leicester based band Divides the Day, and who has recently set up a Guitar sales website www.bens-strange-guitars.co.uk Ben is hoping to get mutual links set up with Musicians / Music sites, to start with in the Midlands area. Our aim is to offer Guitarists a great deal on new, used and vintage Guitars, undercutting the high street and most online retailers, so we would be offering your users good value. Its well worth a look

New Reviewer

20 Sept 05: We normally leave this area for news about what's going on out in the wide blue yonder that is Lincoln, but for once (and because there seems little news coming our way) we thought we'd introduce you to our new reviewer. Katrina has quite a track record, so if you're an indie or Alt Rock band, and you're looking for a review check out all about her on the reviewers page or read some reviews she's done prviously for Gigwise

Eustacia Vye - The rumours aren't true

14 Sept 05: Had word from Harry from Eustacia Vye that the band are definitely not splitting up. Having just secured a gig at the Cockpit in Leeds supporting Idiot Pilot, they are to play a last gig in Lincoln for the foreseeable future this Friday (16th Sept) at The Bivouac and then concentrate on gigs further afield. They will be missed in Lincoln, but you should all have a copy of "If There Has Ever Been A Sense Of Urgency…It's Now" to keep you company until they do come back.

The Straightmen - last gig in Lincoln this year

14 Sept 05: The Straightmen have just arranged a short notice gig to practice their new stuff before the UK Hair Convention in London. The gig is at The Burton Arms on West Prade this coming Saturday (17th Sept). So drop by and make up your pwn mind on a band that has been the topic of conversation on the forum for a while. This will be your last chance to catch them in Lincoln this year.

The Past Update

10 Sept 05: The Past's bassist, Piers Angove, celebrated his 21st birthday in style last week although his day was coloured somewhat when his Rover 620i was broken into, while he was in a convenience store buying groceries. Luckily his in-car cd, bass and several birthday gifts were not taken, but the thieves instead made off hot footed with his large "Head" sports bag off the back seat. The rest of the band all wished they could see the raiders' faces when they opened the bag, expecting to find expensive trainers, squash racquets etc and instead found themselves facing Piers' (somewhat toxic) dirty socks and underwear on their way to the laundry. Piers is however bewailing the loss of all of his favourite shirts and trousers.

Partially in consolation, the band has just had some good news on the recording front. After hearing the "Close your Eyes" demo CD (released in March) the well known London-based Record Producer, Andrew East, who is also Chairman of the Music Producers Guild of Great Britain has agreed to produce The Past's planned first album. The band has been writing new material for the last six months and now has nine new, so-far unrecorded, numbers to be laid down. The precise details still have to be ironed out but East will be travelling up to Chapel Studios early in the new year to mastermind the new residential recording sessions at Lincolnshire's premier recording venue, Chapel Studios in Alford.

For No Reason - Last gig?

09 Sept 05: Emo Punks For No Reason are playing at the Attic on Sunday night with support from Ringworm and Drive By Theory (plus one other). This could well be the last gig (at least for a while) that FNR play as they move on to Uni. So if you're able, get along and see them, its only £3.00 on the door. They're also selling their new EP - "Fail" on the night.

Matt Watson news from Kelly @ Electric PR

08 Sept 05: Kelly (Electric PR) has just got back from "a mega tour with Linea 77 and Korn in Italy. The only bad bit was The Rasmus. Nevermind". And now has a bit of news:

For those who witnessed the secret showcase gig at the Axe and Cleaver on Tuesday night with Newark band Bacchus (featuring Lincoln's very own Matt Watson), like us you'll still be reeling from some killer hits. if you haven't been to a Bacchus gig before then you are in for a treat both on and off stage. The electricity of the band is fairly, um, electrifying and if you have a look around the bar/venue you may spot celeb fans such as Phil Collen and Rob Harris of Jamiroquai! Good news reaches us from down south where one such management company have decided to take Matt and run with him. Sonic Bang management who are responsible for the careers of bands such as The Wildhearts and the five-figure deal babies The Shivers watched with great interest on Tuesday and after a stunned silence, said this of our Matt "Matt Watson is the best guitarist I have heard in 10 years. There is no one out there right now that touches his ability and musicianship". As a result of Tuesday night Matt will be sharing his commitments with Bacchus as well as recording with Sonic Bang for a possible Polydor Records release. Watch this space. For more info about Matt and Bacchus go to his website www.matt-rocks.co.uk or can click on his Lincoln Bands page.

[starter] in London pics

15 Aug 05: Pete, intrepid photographer of many a local gig braved the torrential weekend rain to travel down to the Playroom in Londonwith [starter] last Saturday night. Pete mentioned that it turned out "to be a top night, with a near capacity crowd in which helped provide an upbeat atmosphere. [starter] were fabulous and were on a high afterwards - lots of encouraging feedback from the crowd and other performers helps. I was dead proud of them and it was definitely worth making the trip to see them - even if we didn't get back till 4am."

Photos of the night can be seen on Pete's site: www.shine.clara.co.uk/gigs.

New Meadows Festival Cancelled

02 Aug 05: It appears that The New Meadows Festival has been cancelled. We haven't got a lot of details other than the brief note on the website:

"Due to circumstances beyond our control this year's new meadows music festival has had to be cancelled "
and a forwarded email from the manager of one of the bands due to play:

"Some of you appear to already have heard this, but it would seem that the New Meadows Festival was totally cancelled by its Directorship earlier this morning.

I've just had my employment as booking agent for the company terminated at 12pm today, and am not as yet aware of the reasons...

All I can say is my apologies ... and that the lineup and weekend was looking fantastic."

If we here anything else we'll let you know.
