Lincoln DIY
27 Aug 05: Marc Thomas AKA Lincoln
DIY is calling it a day as a promoter. He feels that gigs
are attended more by the fashion concious than those wanting
to hear the bands. Over the past couple of years or so Marc
has been responsible for putting on some class acts at The
Duke, introducing Lincoln to a string of excellent bands including
Montana, Castor/Troy, Send More Paramedics, and Kill The Lights
as well as showcasing some of the top Lincoln Bands . He's
bowing out with his integrity intact, having promoted gigs
for the love of it and not for the money, and will be greatly
missed by music fans in Lincoln. His last show is to be a
half-dayer on September
10 at The Bivouac the line as follows.
Bullet Union
Andy,Glenn And Ritch
Whoreswhoreswhores
Seducedwomandead-Tbc
Sunshine Republic
Stabbed In Autumn
Flatlands
Mirror Mirror
Hopeswood
The Big Sleep
Bludgeons
Passing Of A Thousand Hearts
Its only £5.00 to get in, so go along and support Marc - and
leave your combs at home!!

More Bands Still Needed
21 Aug 05: We've been informed that the
landlady at the Thorold Arms in Harmston is still looking
for other bands for the gig for beers festival at her pub
on 28 August. Bands wanting to play are to contact them on
01522 720 358 to arrange a slot. As the payment is "Free
Beer" (so we are led to believe) we would assume that
bands must be 18+, but not sure on that.

[starter] in London pics
15 Aug 05: Pete, intrepid photographer
of many a local gig braved the torrential weekend rain to
travel down to the Playroom in Londonwith [starter] last Saturday
night. Pete mentioned that it turned out "to be a top night,
with a near capacity crowd in which helped provide an upbeat
atmosphere. [starter] were fabulous and were on a high afterwards
- lots of encouraging feedback from the crowd and other performers
helps. I was dead proud of them and it was definitely worth
making the trip to see them - even if we didn't get back till
4am."
Photos of the night can be seen on Pete's site:

Martha's goes Metal
13 Aug 05: Loze from DeTonal
State sent in the following, which will certainly interest
the metal contingent in Lincoln
"I heard the rumours and raised an eyebrow,
(Me + Martha's = not) but after a while I thought i'd best
check it out. I walked in to the sound of my all time favorite
band Pantera, then followed by my next, Meshuggah. It felt
like moving into a new house, y'know... like, still living
out of boxes, but i just got the feelin this was gonna become
like home. Greeted by vampires on the wall and a very hairy
new clientele I was amused to read the sign on the wall saying
"No Baseball caps, tracksuits or burberry"
They've done this right! Sinclair and Marie took over and
kicked out all the scum, everybody out. For a month not one
person came thru the door. They persevered, word of mouth
tapped metalers out the woodwork and now a new haunt is born.
Friday nights, when they say "Heavy night"... they
really mean it.
* I can say with pride that DeTonal State have confirmed to
play launching this as a new live venue, dedicated to all
things heavy and alternative. DeTonal State, with support
from our good buddies Zero Point will be there helping to
put to death any reservations people have about this place
on Saturday 27th August.
But i tell you what, I really belive in this place, and i
genuinely am proud that I can contribute to its beginings.
It shall not fall if we accept it for what it is. Fresh! "
This will be the second venue Detonal State have launched
this year, they also did the first night of the Brewer.

Crisis & The Newark Showcases
08 Aug 05: Originally posted 06.08.05.
Reposted due to errors in the original - apologies to Crisis
Studios.
Crisis
Studios who have been running showcases at Ye Olde Market
in Newark, giving loads on bands from the home town a new
venue to play had to cancel a gig on 02 Aug on the advice
of the police after trouble flared in a different bar in Newark,
not at the actual venue. The trouble was part of an ongoing
situation between a gang of local youths and some travellers
and the police were concerned that there would be other incidents
over the following few days.
The loss of Ye Olde Market on a permanent basis is due to
a noise abatement order served by the local council. Although
this in itself doesn't mean they have to stop staging live
music they have just decided to no longer allow live bands
to play.
Crisis are curently looking into another venue and considering
doing some work over here in Lincoln. The guys have supported
a number of bands and hopefully, folks can return the favour
as Crisis starts up at a new venue and the possible foray
into Lincoln.

The Past in Kettering
06 Aug 05: The
Past won through the Battle of the Bands semi-final stage
at Sawyers, Kettering on 4th Aug are to play the final on
Aug 11th. Stiff opposition comes from Kettering band "False:Impression"...the
competition prize is three days in Beck's recording studio
and a champagne press launch of the CD. The competition is
an unusual format with both bands set up on two stages facing
each other, playing 3 x 15 minute alternate sets with changeovers
on an airhorn...and points being deducted for failing to stop
or start immediately on the horn sounding. How bizarre. Support
from people in Lincoln will be welcomed.
