Feature #009 - London Calling

London Calling

Playing in London isn't the same route to being signed as it used to be.. Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester keep it quite insular and are making things happen / forcing them in fact.. I've seen a few shun it for better growth experiences, festivals etc.. The bottom line remains the same, have a good product (look, set, style), build up a contactable fan base so you are a viable commercial entity, create good exposure for yourselves, press, reality TV, gigs, Cyberspace, Arts and general publicity.. Nothing really changes about getting there, its the same road, just resurfaced a little..

There is heavy saturation (not necesarily competition) here and pubs are struggling too so that drives down quality.. Positive, if you're any good you will be noticed but can you follow it up with summat equally cool before you are forgotten amidst the dross??

Negative, a whinging publican constantly going on about the smoking ban, ticket prices and death of the local, all whilst expecting you to be the great white/brown/yellow/pink hope!! Its not conducive to good rock and roll and my advice would be; keep schtum, grab the money and run and while your at it, steal the crowd to a pub next door and refuse to play there again on artistic grounds...

Jardine

Jardine may be familiar to a lot of people in town, particularly those frequenting The Jolly Brewer. A musician now spending a lot of time in the big city and willing to give his take on the unsigned scene down south. Given enough notice (and perhaps putting on the guest list) Jardine may be encouraged to review your gig down in the Smoke. Or answer your questions. Get in touch and we'll pass on your details
