Feature #008 - The Idlers at The Leeds Festival

The Idlers play The Topman Unsigned Stage @ The Leeds Festival

By Chris Pearson - The Idlers

The Idlers at Leeds
So we headed up to Leeds on the Thursday evening, taking in the whole weekend. We all camped with the fellow festival goers (none of this guest camping for us!), and began our promotion... Firstly we literally plastered the whole site with Idlers stickers! We then handed out 1,000 flyers, and badges (and even more stickers.)

On the morning of the gig (Saturday), a friend of ours, Luke Smith, brought 200 bananas with him! We all spent a good morning writing on the side! These were then handed out to a good response!

As 4.45pm and our set time approached, we were intercepted by BBC Look North's TV crew, who interviewed us and followed up there build up to our performance. - This video can be seen on our MySpace page.

So, to the gig. We played 7 tracks to several hundred people. It really was an amazing experience. The beauty of the Topman Unsigned Stage is that it looks out onto the festival site. Not only meaning that hundreds of passers by could also hear us, but we had the interesting vantage point of dodgems, ferris wheels and picnics!

The Idlers at Leeds By the end of our set the crowd had swelled to say the least, and it was over as quickly as it had started!

We had so many positive comments about our performance, and Colin Murray of Radio One fame was spotted wearing our pin badge throughout his day compere-ing the Main Stage, and also on his BBC 3 show that evening.

We took in loads of great bands, and continued to sticker the whole place!

Some of the set was played on last night's Friday Night Mix programme on BBC Lincolnshire, and this can be heard again on their website by clicking 'Listen Again' and skipping to 1hr35mins into the programme.

There'll be a detailed blog, and loads of pictures on our MySpace page soon!

The Idlers at Leeds But in the meantime, special thanks go out to BBC Raw Talent's Alan Raw and Katy Noone for putting us on the bill, and also to everyone who came and saw us play, and helped us out with promotion and stuff over thew weekend. Without them, none of it would have been possible :)
